Maybe he WASN’T visiting his mother like he said? Maybe, this whole time he was “away”, he was conspiring with A? And for what? Would this be why he has this new car that he mom doesn’t use because of her “accident?” Why was he given a new $400 sweater? The MacBook? Do you think these are ways that A is paying Caleb in advanced for something far more serious?
But then we ask, why has is and continue to appear to be helping the girls, like with the website, when the A team can see what Spencer is doing on her laptop? That answer is clear, because he loves Hanna and would do anything to help her, despite what he may be a part of. And the only reason he may be joining the A team is for what they are giving him in advancements. Note: I read the books before the show, Caleb is actually not a character, so all of this is based off of the show.
